Guess How Much I Love You

I hadn't planned on blogging tonight, in fact I am actually rather busy replying to emails and catching up with The Voice of China (中国好声音) but when a good reason for procrastination comes along one simply mustn't ignore it. Especially not on a Monday and most definitely not when you have been proactive all day...you know like you went to work, did your weekly shopping, dyed your hair, made dinner. If you've done all that and maybe more, you deserve to procrastinate.

But less about the procrastination and more about tonight's blog post, it's a short one but a sweet one, I think. I was about to reply to a couple of emails but I clicked on the wrong folder and accidentally came across an email response from my darling other half and in case you forgot who that is, below is a photo:

A freaked out me and an amused fish in Shanghai = to quote Shania Twain: L.O.V.E. Eyes
P.S. Dear fish, thank you for placing that victory sign so strategically well, you rock.

The email I'm referring to isn't just any kind of email. It's a pretty special email. It's pretty sweet too, like pretty much anything my fish says, especially when it involves him telling me that he loves me. Did I tell you about that time where he wrote me some wedding vows because I complained to him that the alarm he recorded for me woke me up from my dream about us getting married? I was fairly upset because I didn't get to hear his response so he made up for it by continuing the dream...and let me tell that man has a way with words! If that doesn't make you aww then you simply have no heart! Pah!

Anyway, for now enough of the wedding vows and back to that email. To clarify, I sent my fish the Chinese version of my favourite story, "Guess How Much I Love You" because well this little rabbit (my Chinese zodiac is a rabbit) just loves her fish that much and more. Also, like I just said, it's my favourite story. In Germany we usually give the book to a loved one because well there's no sweeter way to say I love you. Well, there is but I love doing it this way (though I'd like to note that I've never actually done it this way…I've only ever accompanied my friends when they went out to buy the book). German book stores have an entire collection of accessories to go with the book. Wicked marketing success if you ask me, and yes, I am one of the many who fell for that marketing strategy. No regrets though.

Taiwanese version of the book cover hence the traditional Chinese characters. When searching Google Images, I decided I liked this drawing of the little rabbit and the big rabbit best.

I definitely scored some points with that story, for my fish responded with a sweet one-liner, all the while sticking to the theme of the story: (I love you, to the sun and back)I should really respond that I love my fish to the end of the universe and back but I'm struggling with working out how to say that in Chinese - I'm probably over thinking it. On another note, if I said just that it would end the game to quickly and I'm not in the mood for that. For now I'll just love my fish to Pluto and back (although I could always love him all the way to China and back to Ireland), I'm sure that'll be alright with him, not that I'm going to ask him for permission on this one.

Enough of my nauseatingly sweet ramblings about how much I love my fish, you've guessed it already anyway so where's the fun in that?

Instead I'm going to love you and leave you a little present, have fun practising your Chinese character recognition. And please don't get jealous, I love you all too, it's just that I love my fish a little (or maybe a lot?) more.
