Dear Friend

"I would rather walk with a friend in the dark, than alone in the light."我宁愿与朋友游走黑暗,而不愿在光明中孑然一身。

Dear friend,

you're the most precious gem in my collection. Your eyes, they sparkle unlike anything I've ever seen before. They are a source of considerable mirth, for whenever I'm sad, you needn't say a word, one glance from you and I feel relieved, less worried, almost calm even.

You're my beacon in the night, always making sure I find my way back home. You keep me on the right path, keep me grounded. Though you allow me to indulge in foolish fantasies you never let me fly too close to the sun, always keeping a watchful eye on me, knowing when I've had quite enough of fantasy land and am in need of a dose of reality.

"Friendship marks a life even more deeply than love. Love risks degenerating into obsession, friendship is never anything but sharing."

Your words, while firm, are never laced with anger, there's only earnest worry and a healthy dose of tender loving care. You always seem to know just what to say. You encourage, you advise, you admonish and you reprimand, but never unfairly. Whenever I attach importance to all the wrong things, you somehow gently nudge me back into the right direction, reminding me of what's important in life. You are a keen judge of character, you see right through people, yet you've an ironclad pokerface, you never once let on what you've discovered. This little game you play, it's quite intriguing and I'm spellbound. You're a puzzle I itch to solve.

Muhammad Ali once said that "Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. It's not something you learn in school. But if you haven't learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven't learned anything." and he's right. I can't explain who you are to me or what I feel for you, yet I thank heaven for bringing you into my life. You're quite unlike anyone I've ever met, exquisite, special, different.

In summer, when the sun's sorching rays are a little more than merciless, you're the refreshing breeze, cooling me down. In winter, when the temperatures are far below zero, when icy frost grips my nose, you're that extra blanket keeping me warm. With you I feel safe, with you I feel at ease.

"Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend."

Walking beside you, being your friend truly is the greatest gift. I find myself no longer chasing happiness, no longer chasing perfection, instead I slow down and enjoy the now, the present, I am suddenly content with what I have. A friend like you, one who can show me, what truly matters in life, is a friend I will cherish in my heart forever.

"Friendship isn't about who you've known the longest, it's about who walked in to your life, said "I'm here for you," and PROVED it."

Thank you for being you.
